At last, after a season of false starts—at least here in New England—it seems to be summer. Time to kick back with an icy, refreshing splash of flash.

We have a spicy little summer bouquet for you. A Victorian rose with sinister thorns (The House Broods Over Us), an aged, still-fragrant red carnation (Lothario), a sad, spiky, damp little weed (Hispanic Barbie with Accessories), a cowering skunk-flower (Bless Me) and a morning-blooming you-can’t-be-cereus (Let Me Finish). An oddball winning five-tale hand. I love it: it’s distinct; it’s bizarre; it’s fun. It’s the roller-coaster at Six Flags, minus the retching (although there is one little retching scene…).

Add a twist of lime, take a whiff, put on your best poker face, grab the safety rail—whatever your metaphor, we present our particular summer madness:
