In our uncertain times -- belligerent governments, terrorists, unemployment and climate upheaval -- it's very comforting to see some stability, however small. Like our Vestal Review. I can't believe Sue and I have so many issues under our wings. 15 issues! It seems like we have always run this magazine, perhaps from the time of our youth.

Once again autumn falls into my lap like a leaf of many colors. It's a sad time of the year for me because of the coming cold and darkness, but I can't brush it off, I can't blow it away, and I can't burn it as I can the leaf. Bowing to the popular wisdom, I will join the fall if I can't fight it. I will slowly descend, in a spiral, toward the hard, cold earth. But the exquisite, carefully woven Vestal Review stories are my conciliation.
